I agree with you.

Ironically, conservatives are supposed to be against gouvernment intervention in personal affairs. I guess they just view their values as more important, or superior, or the only way. Maybe it's just the conservative need to conserve...

Look up conservative in the dictionary. One of the definitions is narrow-minded. Go figure.

You make a great point. I don't think TRUE conservatives think like this, though. Both the Republican AND Democratic parties have been taken over via people with ulterior motives...this is exactly the reason I am no longer a Democrat and owe ZERO loyalty to either of the parties at all. IMO, a TRUE American Patriot thinks with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and what is best for America, NOT THE REST OF THE WORLD. Most Americans no longer think like this and would just rather watch TV and the only news that they get is from the media... How many of them actually have READ the "Patriot" act or any of the recent bills coming out of Congress? It takes time, but protecting your rights do. To answer the question which you asked, you are right. Socialism is exactly that. The New World Order that Bush Sr. has talked about is in the process of happening and this is the result. Businesses that they want around will succeed, and ones that the elite don't care about will not succeed. The poor get poorer and the rich get richer...trickle down theory is just BS.

Its not just the middle of right, its is all brands of politicians.

The problem is that we need politicians to make the awkward choices, that we are not sure about. If everything ran like clockwork , then we would be rid of the idiots, but it does not. there will never be enough funds to pay for the things that we want, and we will never be able to agree on exactly what we need, so we elect idiots to make the choices for us.

The second problem is that the right person for the job of a politician, is perhaps the person least excited by the role, thus we get second hand lawyers, crooks who have spent their lives being over-paid as professional liars, and then we have the audacity to moan about the service they give us.

You have the power to vote, you simply have to write I have confidence in none of the above on your ballot paper, but too many people have hidden agenda's , and thus will never remove the incompetent idiots we have. Thus your either part of the problem or part of the solution.

I think voting should be compulsory, and the opt out box included to blow the legs away from this jumped up pompous idiots every four years, to get them to actually do something for our tax money, instead of just sitting in the pockets of large industries, trying to tell us how to live our lives when they clearly are hypocritically doing the opposite.

Wrong. True freedom means being able to live your life with minimal government interference. You say conservatives push their moral standards on everyone else -- what you miss is the fact that liberals are pushing a total lack of moral standards on everyone else. Their mantra is every person has the right to decide for himself or herself what is right and what is wrong, regardless of how any of their actions may affect others. So a liberal will say it's OK for someone to manufacture crystal meth in their house if that person believes it's OK, and it's also OK for a man to have sex with a child (male or female) if he thinks that's OK. These are not extreme examples -- the ACLU has defended people who have been called to answer for such crimes. This is a typical example of how liberals fail to think things through. If everyone is allowed to choose what's right and what's wrong for themselves, that's not freedom -- it's anarchy. And anarchy is one thing the liberals DEFINITELY don't want because those that the liberals hate so much (the military, law enforcement, and people who own guns) would take over. BOTTOM LINE: This country's representative form of government is still founded on the principle of majority rule, so when the majority speaks out on any issue, be it moral, social, economic, etc., the discussion is over and if you don't like it you need to grow up and realize life isn't fair.

Lots of good answers here. Lots of BS too.

It certainly was NOT a conservative that decided for me that I am not capable of buckling my seatbelt, wearing a helmet, or not frequenting PRIVATELY owned, smoke-filled bars. Apparently we (that means YOU too) are not able to think for ourselves. Shall I go on? These are just a few examples of LOSS of freedom.

I've been seeing a lot of these "morally superior" arguments here lately, and I have to say I just don't get it. THE last thing I would call myself is morally superior. What I am not, for sure, is a dope. I personally don't want the government in my car, my house or at the bar with me. I am a law-abiding, voting, independent citizen. I don't get how you're ok with anything else.

Its a catch 22, you cannot complain about it without actually committing it.

"True freedom means not pushing your "moral" standards on everyone else, regardless of whether you like what they do."

(To me, conservatives screw up when they harp so much they become insecure. It's like they're afraid of/or something. Scares me an I'm fearless.)

Neither major party right now is supporting freedom, unless its freedom for business and gov't. Both strive constantly to force their morals on the rest of the world, just in different areas.

GOP is working to limit Amendments I, IV, and X at least.
DNC is working on Amendmends I, II, and X at least.
Smoking bans tend to be supported by both parties. The war on drugs is both parties-though Nixon began it and Reagan really pumped it up.

Personally, I just want the gov't to leave me the hell alone. Whats goes on in my house is my business unless it begins affecting my neighbors.

The democrats have a monopoly on regulating and taxing people. They are sooo smart as elitists that they know better than you how to handle your money! Just ask Teddy Kennedy. He hated the Bush tax cuts and voted against them everytime. So do the rest of the dumocrats.
On the moral front, conservatives espouse freedom of though, that is, they are not worried about political correctness and offending those who make it their lifestyle to offend everyone else.

The point of question is right; further, there are loopholes and points that are not addressed in social policies, even as presented by so called "Liberals".

The real Liberals, do not want government interference in their life--but humane responses to times of trouble, for individuals or familes.
