My sister attends a private school. They have always worn uniforms, this year it has changed a little. The girls have to wear uniform pants, shorts or skirts all from a paticular uniform store costing 44-54 dollars each. The guys are allowed to wear jeans bought from anywhere.

She is in 10th grade, the school is K-12 and is Christian Private. But, still, isnt this discrimination? Isnt it wrong that the girls have to spend so much more money than the boys? Are Christian Private's allowed to make up their own rules without penalities? Could there be a discrimination case?

Private schools are allowed to provide dress codes as many public schools are.

The difference is you don't have to attend THAT private school!

It seems to me that the major point of the dress code for your sisters school is to insure that appropriate attire is worn by the females.

Maybe the issue should be addressed to the school board that any dress, skirt, or pants be allowed for the females (like the males) only that a guideline to insure a proper length be the issue.

The only other suggestion would be to contact an attorney in your area for advise.

As for the comment about militias and Waco....didn't that happen around 1776?!!

Best wishes.

You just said it: Private schools can do just about anything they want, as far as dress code. If they wanted to, they could even make the girls wear head scarves or burqas. You can try to organize a mass protest with other parents and have ALL the girls come to school wearing jeans instead of the uniform pants. They can't expel EVERYBODY.

Actually, I think they can -- but at least you're making a statement.

Yes- Christian and independent schools are exempt from various laws.
You should have thought twice before brainwashing your child at the local fundamentalist camp. Just wait till she joins the adjoining Milita brigade.
Don't you Yanks remember Waco?
