Yanks are 7-9 in his starts. Wonder what Steinbrenner was smoking when he signed this old geezer.

The yankees could have gotten the best pitcher in the majors for the money that they are paying him.
Johan Santana
Tim Hudson
C.C Sabathia
he is not worth that much dinero

No, and in the beginning of the season,I don't think he was even seriously considered. Then the Yankees pitching staff was decimated. So they had no choice, they needed him. but he wasn't worth the money they paid and they should have put him in the bullpen as soon as the other pitchers were healthy again. I suppose it's also good to have the old geezer around to help out with the new guys.

Clemens had completely earned that kind of salary. Not only he's the best pitcher of this era, his recent seasons indicated he wasn't slowing down despite his age. Teams sign players on positive expectations, no one has a crystal ball to determine how good or bad a player is going to perform, and every player has a bad season no matter how great he is.

Definitely NO, but super rich Steinbrenner likes him, so he gave Clemens a monetary gift. The guy is old and tired, just like Randy Johnson.

Not really. He really hasnt done too much to help us. We should have used that cash to get someone else. Johann maybe. It is too much for a guy that has not really helped us that much this year. Maybe also used that money for a couple of YOUNG arms. Like some really hot prospects on other teams.I dont know who, but a couple of young hot prospects in Starting Pitching and maybe 1 in the bulben to replace Villone who has done nothing would be good.

Steinbrenner always over pays, that's nothing new.

The question is was Dice K and his 14-11 record with a era over 4.00 worth over 100 million?

No, unfortunately not worth the $. And no, they couldn't get those pitchers mentioned above because those pitchers weren't bought in free agency. They were traded for, and the farm system didn't have much to offer up before this year. I'm sure the Yanks will make a run @ Santana this off season.

No he isn't, but that's the risk you take when you sign a guy in his mid 40s. Now it looks like Clemens will have to retire because his body finally quit on him, just the way he said he didn't want to end up.

This is all east coast media hype. The only people west of New York who give a darn all live in Texas. Clemens needs to take his oversized ego and go back to his ranch and "spend more time with his family".

For the Yankees? Obviously not.

For the rest of the world? Well, it gave us the fun audio clip of Suzyn Waldman reacting to the announcement of his return:

And a pretty darn funny Cingular commercial, so I'd vote "yes."
