Generally, I listen to music. The type of music I listen to often depends on the type of depressed. If I am angry-depressed, then I listen to heart-pounding heavy metal. If I am sad-depressed then I listen to slower songs. I also seek out a friend to talk to. I don't necessarily talk about what I am depressed about. Just being around other people will get my mind off my troubles for awhile, and their good moods may rub off on me. Another thing I may do is find something else to do, a hobby, a chore, or the best answer, something to help someone else. I think it is good that you are seeking out ways to help yourself. In our pop-a-pill society, this is a rarity.56

eat a banana, According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain trtryptophana type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

I call or visit friends, keep busy doing something like house work, go shopping for a new item or get my nails done. It really depends on what is causeing me to feel down at the moment and to which remedy I will go for. I think talking it out with a freind is good or doing something fun with a friend to take your mind off of it.

Remember the happy times, and tell yourself they will return, the same as depressing times will return. That's life.

Go outside. I go for a bike ride or a walk. The exercise, sunshine, and fresh air do wonders and give depression a kick in the butt.

I typically just unplug with my Mp3 and comfort food always helps... Ha Ha! Yes... I am a guy – and no, I am not fat. In addition, just talking about stuff that might be on my mind (in the rare occasions I feel like it) with my girlfriend or friends helps too.

Talk with somebody you know you can confide in. Go places and do things to keep yourself busy, volunteer to do something to help someone. Or even do something special for yourself.
