I was recommended to read this book because of my advanced reading level.

It is tough for anyone, but it's short and it's great. I think I read it the first time when I was 16 or so, and I didn't have any comprehension problems. You might not grasp all the themes, but then again, I'm sure there are a lot of adults who don't either. If you don't get it, you can always come back to it later.

You could probably read it, but the underlying theme of the book may remain elusive to your comprehension given the limited experience of a 12 year old.

Death in Venice is tough for anyone. I can't even make it through the MOVIE!
