Anyone who thinks cheerleading isn't a sport hasn't tried to be a "flyer". When my daughter was in cheerleading, the issue arose. After being challenged, a number of football, basketball, baseball and track athletes attempted to learn the skills required in cheerleading. In 2 weeks, they conceded that the cheerleaders were indeed athletes and participated in a sport.

Sport is defined as an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
Up to the part of the definition that says it requires skill or physical prowess, I think cheerleading would qualify. Additionally it can be competetive both in trying to make a team and in competing against other teams.
Based on the definition, I would agree that it is a sport.
Another definition of sport is something treated lightly or tossed about like a plaything...cheerleaders might fit under this category. LOL

It is with all of the exercising, flexibiity and gymnastics that goes into cheerleading - it is a sport and should be reported as such.
