This seems to be the formula for the area of a trapezium.
A = (h/2)*(b+c)

You need to get 'b' by itself so get rid of the h/2 out the front by multiplying both sides by 2/h.

You get: 2A/h = b + c

To get b by itself get rid of the c on the right hand side by subtracting it from both sides so you end up with:

b = (2A/h) - c

A=1/2(h)(b+c)
1/2*h*(b+c)=A
h(b+c)=2A
b+c=2A/h
b=(2A/h)-c

2 A = h (b + c)
2 A = h b + h c
h b = 2 A - h c
b = ( 2 A / h ) - c

1. multiply both sides by 2 --> 2A = h (b+c)
2. divide by h --> 2A/h = b+c
3. subtract c --> 2A/h - c = b

A = 1/2 (h) (b+c)

(b+c) = 2A/h

thus... b = 2A/h - c
