hi. i own a 2004 bmw 525i and according to the dealer the car already has uv protection windows but the windows are clear. To protect the interior of the car do i still need to put tints on the windows? Will a light tint protect the interior from fading and cracking?what is the actual difference between light and dark tint? will my interior crack or fade if i dont put tints. is it uv ray that fades or cracks the interior? thank you in advance

Do you need tint?
Answer yes. The tint will factor out nearly 100% of the UVA and UVB.
UV is responsible for about 45% of fade, the remainer is heat and light.
The window film will reduce the interior heat ( lowers fade and cracking) and darker film will reduce the light ( same benefit)
The difference between a lighter tint and a darker tint would really be the amount of time it would normally take for materials to fade. If you go darker this period of time would naturally be longer.

Best bet is to always follow tint laws and use a reputable dealer like FormulaOne. These films are ceramic and won't interfere with Bluetooth, on board electronics or sat radio radar detectors. Highly recommended by BMW dealers for that reason. http://www.formulaone.com

All of the above, like poster #1 said, keeping the leather clean and conditioned will make more difference then anything else. I recommend doing a through leather application twice a year just like with waxing your car, spring and fall is best time. Yes, a light tint will help protect your car by keeping more heat out and direct sunlight. Dark tint is illegal in most states, check with your local tint shop and have them only use legal tint unless you want potential trouble with the police. To protect the non-leather dash use Armorall or equivalent product 4-6 times a year. In summer cracking your windows and using windshield shades will help keep your car cooler when you get in and not under excessive heat.

i do not have extra tint on my 06 tsx with ebony leather interior. I clean them using a leather cleaner and then put a leather conditioner on them. when the car is parked in the sun I have a sun-shield in the front windshield and cover the seats with towels. check with your state to see what tints are legal. drastic temperatures also effect the interior-too hot or cold.
