I got a new computer. I need internet on it. My house is getting brdband. I have an extra filter with a built in phone jack and ethernet port. If I were to buy a router and plug it into the ethernet port. would it give me high speed internet through that router?

That 'ethernet port' is almost certain an ADSL port.

You can't have multiple routers connected directly to the same ADSL line.

You'll need to run ethernet cable from the ADSL router to a router/switch/hub/computer or use WiFi instead.

When the broadband is installed, you will get a cable/DSL modem as part of the install. You would need to connect your router to that modem in order to share the signal between multiple PCs.

You would need to either run a cable from the router to where you PC is, or get a router which includes wireless. Then use either the cable or the wireless signal to connect to the router.
