I posted a question last night about Section 8 being allowed to move in to my upper-middle class apartment complex, and most of the responses were that I should move. WHY? I love the school district. I am a military wife and can not buy a house because by the time I finish the process it is time to move again! It is not fair that these "ghetto rats" are taking over the good neighborhoods! I am not saying that every one on Section 8 is bad but lets face it crime does go up when they are allowed to move in. If something does not change and soon every neighborhood is in serious jeopardy of becoming the projects! See the problem is this, the rich people will not stand for this to happen to them and the poor people think if they move to a better neighborhood their problems will change when in fact they bring their crap with them, so who gets screwed: THE MIDDLE CLASS! It is time we stood together and said enough is enough. Okay that was more of statement than a question!

I read your other question last night and didn't respond. I'll respond to the only question that I see here. "Why?"

The reason you should move is that you are not happy with the environment you are living in. regardless of the reason if you aren't happy you should go. Let me give a few examples:

If you rented an apartment and they built a new Kenny Rodgers Roasters directly across the street from your bedroom window and you apartment was flooded with red light all night and it drive you crazy you should move. why should you move? Because you are unhappy with the living conditions in your apartment. If the store has all its signs placed legally and got all permits for the building then it is within th law.

Imagine if you worked nights and slept days. now imagine that they start construction for a new school across the street from your apartment. Now you have construction vehicles and workmen shouting all day long. it keeps you up. they are legally allowed to work. You are unhappy because you can't get your sleep. You should move. why? Because you are unhappy with the living conditions.

The same thing goes for this instance. These "ghetto rats" are allowed to live wherever they want....just like you. if you don't want to live near them you always have the option to move...or stay. that's what's great about this country. we all have the freedom to do what we want. Your husband is in the military. it's these rights that he is defending!

The sad truth is that many places can get a sure payment from the housing vouchers (that is the new term for sec 8) since they are govt based. The way things are currently-you have more risk in a regular rental not pyaing or skipping. With vouchers-they must follow the guides for move out etc or they may lose assitance. Plus many places will get folks to pay the difference between the actaul rent (what you would pay) and the voucher amount. That is not legal in some localities but is in others. So it makes sense to rent to vouchers. And not everyone on vouchers is a bad person or sitting home selling drugs lots of hard working folks and single moms get these and a lot of folks you would never suspect. However there is a stigma with vouchers and places that take them often get a bad rap and that can drive non-voucher folks out. A few bad apples...and that leads to the perception that all sec 8 folks are up to no good.

Fight the fights you can win! You will not win this one. The owner of the complex is getting so many tax breaks for turning the property into a Section 8 property. Really, the crime and such only happens if the on-site management slacks on their job. There are still policies and procedures for maintaining the property. It's the management that needs to stay on top of it. If I were you, I would do a little research on what it takes to qualify for Section 8, what screenings they have to go through so that you know the process and then find out what management's screening process is as well. If you have criminal background checks, then you probably won't have anything to worry about. Educate yourself. Just because it's Section 8...doesn't mean crime is on the way!!!

Screw you and the horse you road in on, Lady! Refering to people receiving Section 8 assistance as "ghetto rats" marks you as a worthless and heartless piece of (dare I guess, white) trash yourself. You are an insult to the military.

FYI, there is no reason why you can't buy a home. I served for 21+ years and accumulated a very tidy portfolio of properties during my service. This has assured me of a comfortable retirement. Sadly, you're so focused on other people to pay attention to yourself and therefore fail to realize the opportunity that has presented itself for you. That's so typical of you "holier than thou" types!

Grow up young lady. There is this thing called base housing. And a thing called VA loans. You choose to live there because of the school district so we all need to pay for you? I understand your husbands sacrifice in the military. And appreciate it. It does not give you the right to be snooty......
Welcome to real life. It happens to civilians too. And vets....
