I have a second hard drive (ATA) in my PC that I want to use in a new PC that I'm getting which uses SATA. I think the cables are different so I'm wondering if they make an adaptor.

YES. The motherboard should have at least one IDE port that supports up to 2 drives. DVD drive could already be using it. You could hook up your ATA hard drive as slave on that same ribbon cable used by the DVD drive. OR you could use an adapter so that your ATA HDD could use the SATA port:

If your new computer has an ATA disk adapter as well as the SATA one then you can 'just' plug the disk (and cable) in and use it.

If it doesn't you'll have to see if you can buy an add-in ATA card to hook the disk up to.

There is little possibility of an 'adapter' as SATA is a serial protocol it only has a very small cable whereas ATA (or PATA) is a parallel protocol with a very wide cable. Any adapter would cost as much as a new disk drive.

Alternatively get an external drive case and use your old disk on a USB port as an external disk drive.

first search the type of motherboard you have, if it has a SATA connection, then yes by all means, otherwise a SATA adaptor may be required. There are card adaptors that can be purchased easily and cheaply.

Many new computers have IDE (PATA) besides having SATA. Check with your new computers manufacturer.
