The European Union is made up of countries in Europe to allow freedom of trade, persons and (I've forgotten the whole speech) within Europe. Countries involve Britian, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Netherlands etc. You don't get in the EU just because you want to (just ask Turkey who have been waiting for 20 years and Macedonia who are at 16 years).
I'm sooo embarrased to hold the same nationality as you (Australian)! My apologies everyone and may I say that the geography classes in Australia need some work.

Cuba is communist. The EU is socialist. There is a BIG difference. Cuba doesn't meet just about any of the requirements to enter the EU, democratic, social or monetary - plus the EU wouldn't be interested in having them, the only non-European country that's even being CONSIDERED for entry is Turkey, and even that is half in Europe.
And your cretinous generalised comments are the number one reason why Europeans look down on Americans.

First of all, Cubans like you, the Miami Cubans and your prez don't like Cubans and tell you we don't like you to get you to ask questions like this.
Second, what part of European Union is not clear enough? Cuba is located below Florida between the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea, so that makes it a Latin American Country.
Next time brush up on Geopolitics and Int Affairs before making my day like this.
And Europeans are not left wing sympathizers, they just have a tendency to respect other people's choices unlike some... who meddle in the affairs of others and the solution ends up worse than the problem itself.

Well, obviously, one is the EC, for Europeans, and Cuba is Cuba, so how can it be in the EC.
Still, that was not the intention of your question, which was a slate at all left wingers, who will not be offended, as we rarely are by half witted questions or remarks.

One of the biggest reasons is that the European Union is Europe. Cuba is not Europe.

Simple if they did that then that would all the US would need as an excuse to attack them and destroy them. As long as they are by themselves and mond their own business for the most part the US will leave them alone. They start joining up with other unions and such and someones gonna get trigger happy at the white house and bye bye Cuba!.
No idea who would get trigger happy though Bush maybe? :)

Grab an atlas. Might take you a couple of days to work it out though.
