I used to read the Misty of Chincoteague books. I was into horses. I remember liking Benji too. Kind of showing my age. lol I may have started reading the Black Stallion series at around that age. Depends on how advance or how much an 8 year likes to read.
Then again, I was reading The Hound of the Baskervilles in 1st grade cause I thought it was a story about a dog. :)
My friend's daughter started reading Harry Potter in 3rd grade.
Hope some of this helps.

My 8 year-old sister is reading the Redwall series and has also very much enjoyed the Nancy Drew books. But she's more advanced in reading than most of her schoolmates.

Short novels, possibly Junie B Jones? I remember those specifically. The babysitters club, sweet valley twins, or the mystery series of Mary Kate and Ashley. I used to read those, but I was probably about ten. Check those out, see if she likes them.

Depends on the girl.. by the time I was 8 I was reading Stephen King.. (My teachers would constantly take them away until my mother went in to talk to them) ... If you are looking for something for a specific 8 year old, ask them.. or their teachers..

I used to love the Babysitter's Club, Babysitter's Club Little Sister, Sweet Valley High, Nancy Drew, and Goosebumps
....that said, I don't even know if new titles come out in these series anymore!

I bought my little sister the Cheetah Girl series. I have no idea what it's about other than some kiddie girl band.
