In rice transplanting, rice seeds are planted in a suitable container and sprouted, then these are planted in a flooded field.
The seeds which don't sprout are eliminated, they didn't grow.
Damaged, injured, sick, diseased and defective plants are sorted out by the planters.
The fields are spaced properly for maximum yield and only the best are planted.
This requires cheap labor and is terrible on the workers backs.

Flooding comes next, then planting. They transplant to mimic the natural pattern of rice growth and ensure the highest level of production from a field.
