Are you considered an "employee at will," that is does the company retain the right to terminate your employment within that 4 month period?

If that is the case, the contract possibly isn't legal or enforceable because it only binds you, but not them.

But failing that condition you are virtually the company's slave for the 4 month period.

What are the consequences if you don't show up? Can/ would the company sue you?

Best to check with an attorney, to determine your legal rights under the law where you live. You may be stuck, you may not. Only an attorney can determine that for you.

You could, but would probably have to pay any reparations stated in the contract. Unless there are circumstances which could have lead to you signing it before you were ready. This however, would be hard to prove.

NO ONE can answer the question with any acuracy without first reading the contract itself.
