I think the chip is a modern equivalent of the old school parrot, so you should get down your local Port and apply right away, i hear the Flying Dutchman is recruiting

So to answer your question, the parrot requirement was dropped in in the late 1800's.

Because they are trying to improve their image, they do require that each new recruit go through sensitivity training along with some team building exercises. The training is intense and requires 3 weeks of classroom attendance..

Having a chip on your shoulder may not bode well for you...

My parrot was styrofoam, and to be a pirate all you really need is Rum. But a chip would do nicely.
