It was called The Big Job and starred Dick Emery, Joan Sims, Sid James,Lance Percival, Jim Dale, Sylvia Syms and Derek Guyler. Basically most of the carry on team. Love this film. Good old British comedy at its best

This sounds like it:
The Big Job (1965)
"An inept gang of bank robbers, led by George The Brain, are caught and sentenced to 15 years hard labour each. When they are released from prison they start out to collect the money they had stolen and which George had hidden in a hollow tree during the chase in which they were caught. The only trouble is that the tree was in the middle of a lonely lane when they were imprisoned; now, 15 years later, the tree is in the backyard of a Police Station."

I ought to consider you...i think of Fawlty Towers replaced into the main incredible comedy to ever come out of the united kingdom. i'm nevertheless turning human beings directly to it in the present day! Barring that, I desire that there have been greater of the previous Radio sequence,"The Goon shows". regrettably, it ought to in no way be, because of the fact Peter sellers, Spike Milligan, and Harry Secombe (or maybe the announcer, Wallace Greenslade) have all exceeded.

I do remember the film shown not long ago on Channel 4. I think it was 'long arm of the law', or something along those lines.
