McAfee is good, but very heavy on resources. So use something lighter like AVG or BitDefender, they are better too.

Check the memory on your computer. If it is <256MB, upgrade it to 512MB by buying another 256MB RAM.

Delete or copy all the files/folders that yu don't use everyday and store it on a CD. Pictures, music, video files occupy considerable amount of space.

Run yur anti-virus utility once every 15/30 days.

Go to the system BIOS and enable yur floppy drive and CD drive.

Here are things to consider based on what you said ...

1) How old is your PC?
2) How much RAM does it have ?
3) What kind of games do you download ?
4) How often to you clean your CD drive ?

Since your using a CD drive and not a DVD or a combo drive i reckon that you have an old PC. Perhaps consider upgrading your PC. The cheapest way to upgrade your PC is to buy memory.

It could be that you have an old and slow computer. (a slow processor or not much RAM) Also what OS are you using. Win95, 98, 2000, XP ? Need more info. If you are running a very complicated game that will slow your computer - especially if your computer is not very new.
