Yes,and they will continue to go on with it. Our government AND the politicians on the EU LIE constantly, this is what some of them have said in recent weeks about the Constitution,(thats what the bl**dy thing is).............
“The good thing about not calling it a Constitution is that no one can ask for a referendum on it.”
Giuliano Amato, Former Italian Prime Minister
“Public opinion will be led to adopt, without knowing it, the proposals that we dare not present to them directly.” “All the earlier proposals will be in the new text, but will be hidden and disguised in some way.” Making cosmetic changes would make the text more easy to swallow."
Giscard d’Estaing, Author of the European Constitution
“The aim of the Constitutional treaty was to be more readable; the aim of this treaty is to be unreadable… The Constitution aimed to be clear, whereas this treaty had to be
unclear. It is a success.”
Karel de Gucht, Belgian Foreign Minister
“BRITAIN is different. Of course there WILL BE TRANSFERS of SOVEREIGNTY. But would I be intelligent to draw the attention of public opinion to this fact?”
Jean Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Luxembourg.
The EU is now a monolithic corrupt bureaucratic EU superstate with directives on everything. I would call that a dictatorship!!!!!!!! We MUST get out NOW!!! www.proreferendumrally.co.uk

As a ( now) outsider, the EU frightens the heck out of me. It appears to be almost like secret parliament that goes on its merry way without checks or balance.
I think that the majority of British people barely give it a thought unless something major appears in the daily papers or on News at 10 that will directly affect the money in their pocket.
Yet every day, the EU is chipping away at freedoms of thought and deed creating a huge amorphous representation of business and political interests.

Yes getting more like a dictatorship all the time!
If you want to read some points of the treaty in plain english go to www.conservatives.com/tile.do?
I don't think many people have any idea of the content of the treaty and its time we all found out how badly we are being sold out

The EU is becoming like the main three parties in the UK, all blurred, corrupt and unaccountable to the electorate!. Policies are overlapping, MP's are giving advice to other parties and sitting on panels that further distract us from democracy. Gordon Brown is now aspiring to be like Lady Thatcher, and Hoodie Dave is cant make his mind up who to punish!. For Gods sake!, lets get some defining lines between our parties. Next thing you know, we will all be part of one giant Socialist regime, controlled by faceless creeps, hiding behind the banner of the EU Treaty!. God save the Queen!.....

The EU badly needs a treaty and constitution (the majority of EU countries, such as England, don't even have their own!)
It is difficult to get so many parties to agree to anything, though, and they each have their constituents to answer to at home, so getting any kind of consensus will be very tough.
What you are talking about is just conspiracy theory nonsense. The EU never has and never will pose a threat the the USA, other than kicking our *** economically, which they have been doing for some time now (hmm, about 8 years, now why is that?)

There are benefits as well as threats, looking at one thing in isolation is dangerous and ordinarily, you'll look at the issues important to you, not in a broader context. The man in the street understands very little and talks a lot about it, so it generates hype. Globalisation is incredibly beneficial to a lot of countries... think what the benefits are for those countries. Decisions will please some and anger others, deal with it!

I'm not sure that's right, but it would be interesting to see where your figure of 70% comes from. Do you have a link?
