Remember the wearing of thong leotards over lycra shorts was popular back in the 80s and early 90s?

Did *anyone* think they were a good idea? Now, thong underwear and swimwear, fine. But lycra shorts and then a thong leotard on top? Why??

P.S. Am I right in remembering the time period? I seem to remember still seeing them occasionally when I went to college in '98.

Oh, I defintiely remember seeing them when I was a little kid. & I remember my mom telling me about how awful they were!

I'm guessing that someone experimented with it and liked it. So it started to "grow" on other people, and thankfully it died out.

I don't think anyone thinks there a good idea...thats why they've never come back!

A lot of the patterns and styles from the 80s have returned, but not that one! I'm sure there's a reason.

I vividly remember the days when thongs were worn to the gym. There was an element of sex appeal that you just don't see in todays active wear. Something about seeing the outline of a womans figure tightly clad in spandex, it was visually alluring and an optical tease. One thing that went horribly wrong with this picture was the sight of an overweight woman with a big ego and little thong - needless to say that wasn't one of my favorite memories. With the revival of 80's fashions I wouldn't be surprised to see the look of tights and thong letoards making a come back in fitness clubs around the country.

Apparently lots of people thought it was a good idea, cause you can watch old shows from the 80's and almost any female in workout clothes is wearing what you described. As far as comfortable, I don't know, I'm too young to have worn an outfit like that.

that was actually the 80s and maybe early 90s. 90s was more biker shorts under like the wind shorts kind of thing.

all were ugly then and will always be.
