(30yr old house) It overflows easily. Not sure what they system is called but it's so bad we've never been able to flush toilet paper cuz the lines are too narrow. What kind of upgrade does it need? Details please.

Normal lines are six inch. If your lines are this small then have them cleaned out real good, a rooter-router cleaning with an auger, you can rent one and try it yourself but, by the time you pay rental and with the lack of knowledge in what your doing, you'd be better off hiring it done.

Have our tank pumped also. Let's hope it's O.K. any trees in the immediate area will give you a hint as to what the cause might be, like tree roots. You may have an expensive job on your hands like replacing the tank, and drain field, 10 maybe 15 thousand dollars.

Sounds like your septic tank is full or sewer lines are backed up. A thirty year old house should still have three and a half inch or four inch drainpipe. You can try removing the toilet and running an electric snake through the pipes or call a septic service. If you have city sewer call the city because theres a backup somewhere.

I think that you need to cut the roots out of the system. I don't think they put in different sized pipes in those, but I could be wrong. The one on our property was way overgrown with tree roots, and every other kind of roots. It's like a magnet for roots. Call someone to have it drained and cleared of roots. I don't remember how much it cost us, sorry. Bye
