If you are able to confirm that your sound card is working properly, you problem may just be that of a sound driver. If you have loaded a new operating system, each the CD that came with your system, (or motherboard CD) and load the drivers. If you can't find that, go to the manufacturers website and download the correct driver for your windows and sound card.
Good luck

Either a driver has dropped off your system or the sound card chip has failed. If you know what sound card or onboard chipset you have, go to the manufacturer's web site and download the drivers. If not, it's not the end of the world. Sound cards are relatively cheap and fit into any available PCI slot on your motherboard. You should be able to pick up a sound card from your local PC dealer for around £10.00, dependent on how many channels you want, and they are simple to fit.

You need to re-load your audio driver. 2 ways.
1, open Control Panel, Sounds & Audio Devices. Open it, click on Hardware. There are a number of audio choices. Click on the top one to start with, open Properties, Drivers, Update drivers. You may have to go through a couple to find yours.
2, Find a driver site.
