Shouldn't we be sticking together? There are some real bad guys out there and we won't defeat them by falling out with each other. I get really tired of seeing questions slagging off the US and equally tired of seeing pathetic anti UK comments of the 'if it wasn't for us you'd be speaking German' mentality. The UK stood alone and bankrupted itself in WWII before the US joined, but thank goodness they did join in in the end, if they hadn't it would have been more likely that the whole of continental Europe would have been speaking Russian not German. Both countries have a lot to be proud of, both have contributed vastly to the modern democratic western world, and both should stand together to defeat the cowardly scum that are threatening our peace and security now.

I know there are issues with both governments, and I am not justifying any war, it is the personal spiteful coments that are totally unnecessary, I do not hate everybody from another country just because I disgaree with some things their government does.

Yes we are on the same side therein lies the problem - we're on America's side and America is on America side. Not like Canadian we're on Canadians side (I hope) and Canadian is on our side.

Mind you America does have the potential to be peace keepers, if they came into (God forbid) a war straight away when they hadn't been attacked and there was no oil. Both sides would be so stunned we would forget how to fight!

Actually - the war was almost over before the Americans joined in - Germany was virtually on it's knees - the Yanks came toward the end to aid the final push and then SENT us the bill for it.

Germany made the mistake of screwing with the Russians and got burnt for it - Correct me if I am wrong but the Russians made no attempt to attack the mainland of Europe - After the fall of Germany they moved in on other countries but, that was basically down to the collapse of those countries and their 'asking' the Russians for assistance, but there was no threat to the likes of Holland, France, Britain.

So, in that respect you are not entirely correct.

The problem here is - basically we like taking the mickey out of the Yanks - but there is a serious side to it as well - the Yanks feel that we owe them - then they bomb our troops or shoot them in the back - they are not all they are cracked up to be as a fighting force - very naive in fact.

It will never stop - and all the while that the US acts a WORLD police - we will be tarred with the same brush -

yes we should stand together, but just like most members of the same family , only if we all agree about what it is that we are fighting for and why. were usually first in there and last to leave but too Meany not quite the whole truths , people aren't in the dark any more, they can find out what is really going on via there Internet and even with propaganda from both sides we are mostly old and wise enough to see through the lies and form our own opinions

The USA is simply the most aggressive nation in the world today, but pretends to be a peacemaker.

e.g. Iraq : a war founded on lies and wouldn't have happened if there hadn't been oil

A nation that preaches democracy but doesn't practise it.

e.g. The Bush /Gore fraudulent vote counting

Calls itself enlightened but kills thousands of it's citizens every year, but 90% of executions are blacks not whites

etc...etc...

now what was your question again?

I think it's a historical thing as a British woman living in the US, I think the US feels sort of put down that they were at one time our colonies and now they have risen to a place of power, and with power comes power trips! So for one of the youngest countries in the world they can flex their muscles and lord over everyone else especially their former "owners"...
At the same time it's hard for us Brits to accept that our former colony is now treating us like one of their states!

If it wasn't for Britain, the Yanks would be speaking French or Spanish and be a Catholic nation!

Makes me laugh when they use the "you'd be speaking German" thing. So what? English is already a Germanic language and the Germans I've met have been lovely people.

The USA had a vote at one point over whether their language should be German or English so they actually came closer to it..

Unless you fought in the war yourself, shut up lol

auf Wiedersehen!

I agree with you, but I ignore those silly comments. I am from the UK but I absolutely love the US. I often visit the USA on holiday - it is my favourite destination. I have been so many times, it feels like my second home. I love all sorts of American people - Dolly Parton, Ellen Degeneres, Louise Hay, Esther & Jerry Hicks, Sylvia Browne to name a few. If I could choose a nationality, I'd certainly be proud to be American.

Because UK and US don't agree on everything. The US are our allies yes but that doesn't mean we're going to stand down on everything they say. They have policies and politics that don't count for us.

May son and daughter fought like the devil, still do sometimes. If you want to live you do not take sides EVER. Perhaps it's a bit like that with us and US
