It would probably be better to start with a plant as opposed to a seed. There is a lot to know about the USA name hazelnut.
Where I live the grow on the roadside and they are shrubs rather than trees.

If its been pollenated, yes.

Look around for other trees. If there are fruit trees with fruit on them then you stand a good chance this nut will be ok.

Don't be too kind to it, put it in a pot with some soil but let the frost get to it over winter. THe cycle of warm adn cold helps the nut germnate.

Try to grow about 10 of them and keep the healthiest next spring
Plant it into the ground in 2 years.

Hazel nut bushes are pretty hardy; they should be fine without protection if planted in the yard. Good luck and enjoy!

Yes. My dad has two growing in his garden and the nuts are superb.
