to be successful without any regional or local support for its operations? Nor any political or diplomatic support?

You know, under International Law, the war in Iraq is illegal. Oddly enough, under US Congress Law, its legal.

ThorGirl. Of course the First Gulf War was legal. It was authorised by the UNSC in order to liberate Kuwait.

But the 2003 invasion was not agreed by all UNSC members, apart from US and UK and some of their non member lackies. And did not get full UNSC authorisation. So therefore, the war in Iraq is illegal under those guidelines of the UNSC.

And for cyring out loud, Saddam has been executed. Give the man's soul a rest. He went through enough already. He was never able to say the TRUTH in his mock up court. My greatest regret of all.

Its best if the Iraqis are left alone to solve their own affairs. The terrorist threat should be another matter.

They can't expect to be successful unless they are going to be delusional.

It was NOT illegal read the UN mandate from Gulf one and the Clinton Doctrine on regime change. It is all about war with Saddam NOT Iraq. That is why we are trying to bring about peace and Not shooting the Iraqi People.

The Act found that Iraq had, between 1980 and 1998 (1) committed various and significant violations of International Law, (2) had failed to comply with the obligations to which it had agreed to following the Gulf War and (3) further had ignored Resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. The Act declared that it was the Policy of the United States to support "regime change." The Act was passed 360-38 in the U.S. House of Representatives[2] and by unanimous consent in the Senate.[3] US President Bill Clinton signed the bill into law on October 31, 1998. The law's stated purpose was: "to establish a program to support a transition to democracy in Iraq." Specifically, Congress made findings of past Iraqi military actions in violation of International Law and that Iraq had denied entry of United Nations Special Commission on Iraq (UNSCOM) inspectors into its country to inspect for weapons of mass destruction. Congress found: "It should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace that regime." On December 16, 1998, President Bill Clinton mandated Operation Desert Fox, a major four-day bombing campaign on Iraqi targets.

im sure we have the support of the kurds. you see saddam was in the process of ethnicly cleansing them from the face of the earth when he was stopped by us. being alive or dead is a simple choice when offered in those terms. but then again why should i dampen your opinion with the kurds being alive or the success of the surge in basra....check your facts ok..and as for the "illegal war", let me remind you of the liberal extremists front runner and her view pre flip flop...

! "In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members.. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." - Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
