Usually there's just something in one answer that I relate to more than the others, or I just find it more amusing or more interesting ....
just whatever catches my eye the most, I guess.

If you feel that the person has answered correctly and logically up to the point (No beating around the bush) and if you are convenced that it is much better than the other answers choose it as the best answer.

2 ways:
1st for Qs asked by Myself
-Read the Ans and see which is most appropriate choose it as the Best Ans
2nd for Ans given by me to other's Q
- if the asker has choosen the best ans by himself then the Q is resolved, I can't do any thing
- if the ans is in voting, search your own ans and choose it as the best ans (self voting- though not a good idea but if no body is attending resolve it somehow)

To chose a best answer i first read all the answers. I give a thumbs down to all freaks.. The answer which is really meaningful and i think that can solve the problem i choose it as a best answer...

When i am voting for 'best answer' to someone else question i choose the answer that is closest to what i would have put if i had answered the q'. As for 'best answer' to my questions i pick the answer that makes the most sense. x

I will read all the answers. I will select the best one from them which coincides with my answer what I was looking for. If I don’t get a perfect answer than I will select the answer which is relevant to my views.

I simply choose the answer that I think answers the question best if it is a serious question. If it is a humorous question, then I choose the one I think is the most humorous.
