You must be referring to the mystery of the disappearing socks. I have a draw full of about thirty individual socks - the matching ones nowhere to be seen. I have heard rumours and tales over the years but the one I like to believe is that socks are both dominant and resessive (a bit like genes) and the dominant one will reach an age of maturity which triggers a desire to return home to the world of the odd socks. This is quite sad because they have to break the emotional bond with its pair and leave it behind forever. The resessive must remain behind to stifle human suspicions and the dominant will be free to live a life of sock luxery in sock world. I'll stop now due to the tear forming in my eye.

Ha, at least your's come out in even numbers. If I put 8 socks in, I'm going to get 5 back and none of them are going to match.

Ive seen this phenomena happen on some washers and they generally end up in the pump and will cause the washer to quit working or need serviced. To keep this from happening you should put your socks and small clothes in the bottom and the heavier clothes on top.

Small items like socks can slip between the rim of the drum and the inner edge of the door, so you won't see them again until your machine needs repairs and the back has to be removed ! ! !
