Mt Isa and Gladstone in Queensland but there are plenty in Western Australia. There is a company (Extraman) that takes people on casually for the mines. The shifts are usually twelve hours and seven days straight with three or four days (after a week of nights). You need a driver's licence and they will train you to drive the dump trucks. Money is good about a grand or more per week. Tim Prowse, Managing Director, Norton Goldfields, 7 Potts Street, East Brisbane Qld 4169 Ph: 617 3393 0966 Fax: 617 3393 0977 has operations in Queensland and Western Australia.

There are a lot of mines in central Queensland, particularly coal mines (inland from Townsville).
Get a Brisbane yellow pages, and ring the various mining companies. Alternatively, contact the Queensland Department of Mines. They will help by telling you which companies operate the large mines.
I know a few people who have worked in the Queensland mines, and they didn't have too much trouble finding jobs, especially if you have a heavy vehicle / heavy equipment opewrating licence.

The mines are generally located in quite remote parts of Queensland, not within commuting distance of Brisbane (or anywhere else that counts as a city). The good news is that there are heaps of well-paid jobs going at the mines in almost every trade and type of employee. Demand for these employees exceeds supply to the extent that many of the mines have their employees live in Brisbane (or Townsville, or Mackay or wherever) and pay to fly them in and out of the mine. So employees usually go and do, say, 8 days of 12 hours on and 12 hours off, living in temporary accommodation on site, then go home for 8 days, or something like that.

I hope these links are helpful.

Heaps of geology jobs are available all over Aussie (WA, QLD) go to a website like www.seek.com.au and tyoe geologist as a key word. Other jobs are available, and like many others have said, you will pretty much walk right into very well paid work. FIFO (fly in fly out) work is popular, with 8 days on 4 off etc being common

not all mines are located in Queensland, there are however, loads of them around blackwater, emerald etc (the bowen basin).

To get into mining will depend on what schooling level you have, and what qualifications you have.

There are loads of job network providers who can point you toward training companys etc.

Even to be a dump truck operator you will need good school grades and be a very hard worker, often they work 12hr days for 5 to10 days straight.
