It's always free. Just sit down and chant.
I don't think it works when other people do it for you.

Sit quietly with a straight spine. Don't move a single muscle.
You won't be in a trance it just looks that way.
Your breath will slow down by itself and then your thoughts will, too. Mentally chant OM on you exhale.
Thirty minutes is too long, start with ten and build up.

I agree with that last answer, I found a guy to do OM chanting for 1.00 a minute and he did it every day for 30 minutes. It didnt make me feel any better.

Listening is no doubt relaxing but try chanting yourself and feel the beatiful vibrations at your lips. So, my advice is chant yourself.
