First of all... FICTION is basically an untrue tale written for the sole purpose of telling a truth about humanity.
That being said, I have a short kist cuz I don't want to give you too many... as I'm sure you may not be intrested.
I'm a native and i love native reads by native authors. They are pretty "authentic" to native ways and some lean on the funny side- but that may just be if your a native reading it. Well, these are good reads anyways. Easy to follow and such.
-Lakota Woman by Mary Crow Dog
-The Life of Crazy Horse by Joseph Marshell III
ok... any book by that author really.
-The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fishfight in HEaven by Sherman Alexis... ok anything by that author too.
-Skins
-Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee
-Plays are fun to read. You can act them out in your head.
-My personal favorite... got me through some rough patches-
The Harry Potter series.
Even of you know the ending, ok... it's a really great series. It teaches the ultimate power of love without being mushy at all.
-and last but not least.... The Notebook. Now THAT is a great love story.

This will all sound very "horsey" but it's love and realism... "the Horse Whisperer," and "All the Pretty Horses" by Cormac____. The first for the romance blooming on all sides; girl and horse, man and woman.
The second is about boys riding away from ranches in Texas that are no longer viable as a means of support... so the boys take their horses and supplies and set off for Mexico. One becomes a man. You'll see... that one's a great book.

You could try books by Melina Marchetta, "looking for Alibrandi" and "Saving Francesca". Those two books are both about a teenage in year 11/12 and her troubles. The two books are pretty similar and they both have romantic touches.
"Looking for Alibrandi" blurb:
“I’ll run one day. Run for my life. To be free and think for myself. Not as an Australian and not as an Italian and not as an in-between. I’ll run to be emancipated. If society will let me”
Josephine Alibrandi is seventeen, and in her final year of school. Dealing with her mum and the ways of her Nonna are daunting enough as she prepares for her exams. But Josie is about to discover real life gets in the way of her carefully-made plans. She suddenly has to heal with having her father around for the first time in her life, falling in love and uncovering her family’s secret background.
Despite all the turmoil, this is the year Josie discovers that emancipation doesn’t mean escaping from your past. Sometimes you need to face up to who you are in order to set yourself free…
"Saving Francesca" blurb:
My old school, St Stella’s, only goes to Year 10 and most of my friends not go to Pius Senior College, but my mother wouldn’t allow it because she says the s there leave with limited options and she didn’t bring me up to have limitations placed upon me. If you know my mother you’ll sense there’s an irony there, based on the face that she is the Queen of Limitation Placers in my life”
Francesca is in the beginning of her second term at an all boy’s school that has just started accepting s. She still missed her old friends, and to make things worse, her mother has had a breakdown and can barely move from her bed.
But Francesca had not counted on the fierce loyalty of her new friends, or falling in love, or finding that it’s within her power to bring her family back together.

if you like autobiographies (well, semi) read 'this side of paradise'. it's fun and has some literary references. it's scott fitzgeralds' failed romances and whatnot.
Oh, love stories. 'the Great gatsby' by, coincidentally, the same person. the very wealthy gatsby comes out of nowhere and no one knows who he really is. it turns out that all his wealth he has required is all so that he can be with daisy buchanan, the woman he fell in love with years ago but rejected him because he was too poor. it's very sad though but very good
