fifteen hundreds less than six tenths
= 6/10 -- 15/100
= 60/100 -- 15/100
= (60 -- 15)/100
= 45/100
= 0.45

First convert the tenths into hundredths by multiuplying by ten (there are ten hundredths in one tenth)
Then subtract the hundredths:
6 tenths = 60 hundredths
Subtract 15 hundreths 60 - 15 = 45
Therefore, 15 hundreths are 45 hundredths less than 6 tenths

It's always the same answer for maths. Write down what it says:
6/10 less 15/100
6/10 - 15/100
Multiply 6/10 by ten to get the same sort of fraction (This is the only tricky bit in adding and subtracting fractions)
60/100 - 15/100
0r
60 - 15
45/100

they got it wrong. x less than y, in word problems is translated as y-x. hence, the solution for the problem is
(a) 6/10 - 15/100
get the LCD of the denominators (10 & 100).The LCD is 100.
now, (a) can be written as
60/100 - 15/100.
subtracting the numerators, we have 45, then just copy the denominator(since the fractions are similar)
The answer is 45/100

0.6 - 0.15
or
6/10 - 15/100
60/100 - 15/100 (multiplied the numerator and denominator each by 10, to get the common denominator of 100)
45/100 (subtracted 15 from 60)
