I would have to go with both, I think the trick is not to spend beyond your own means! If you really want something that is a little out of your range, the right thing to do is save and then buy what it is you want! There are a few exceptions to that rule for most of us though. Credit is a good thing as long as you don't abuse it and get in to deep a debt
