To decrease some of the crime in society, you first need to decrease the amount of government control. arily666, your comment about psychcological profiles and DNA profiles on everyone from basically babies on up, is frightening. Have you ever read the book "1984". But basically, films and TV have very little influence in increasing or decreasing crime. Yes, some kids can do some stupid things, trying to emulate what they see on the tube. But it really comes down to the home life and the inherent proclivities in the person, as to whether or not they will commit a crime. Truthfully, in a way , I believe the commercials on the tube are a more direct cause of reckless and immoral behavior than films are.

While you're correct in saying that violence in television and films does add visuals to crimes that may then lead to them, neither medium can be blamed "for" the crime in society itself. There are too many other factors contributing to crime as a whole. People these days look for an "easy out". They totally 'shun' personal responsibility. If they take any at all, it's AFTER they've gotten in trouble for something (ala LOHAN, RITCHIE; HILTON; DOWNEY, JR. and the list goes on and on...). Amazing how AFTER they're essentially 'busted', they miraculously "learn from their mistake" and/or go to a 30-day re-hab where they're cured and ready to 'handle their debt to society'. Please!!!
'Crime' stems from a person's home life and surrounds, period. Ask yourselves "what am I teaching my own kids"? "Am I practicing what I preach or is it the old 'Do as I say, not as I do"? "Do I take personal responsibility for my actions and obey laws and place a high value on education and our law enforcement'(without which, we'd have totally anarchy!)? "Do I actually teach my kids right from wrong and to have respect for not only myself but for others too"? It all starts in the home and it all boils down to personal "choice" in the end! For example, nomatter how bad of an upbringing you've had. How rich or poor. You still have the right to "choose" to be better than what you were raised with or taught. Never forget that. NO EXCUSES.

the government should stop sticking its nose where it doesn't belong. people should stop asking the government to regulate everything in their lives. good and evil exist, now and forever, it is a fundamental law of humanity. expecting the government to eradicate evil is a silly and foolhardy notion.
violence is and can be beautiful, even elegant, if not exciting. that they are expressed in popular art forms is a natural expression of the human soul. crimes existed before there was television and movies. do they add to the level of criminality in our society? impossible to say, one way or another, we have no frame of reference. other countries aren't US, they don't have the dynamics that we do. it is what it is. that should be comforting to you not disparaging. if the government should do anything it is to fix your negative attitude and cynical outlook.

some movies should be segregated from the youth but not all ages. we should get over our fear of big brother, institute better checks and balances make the legislature more accountable to doing the job and have psychological profiles on everyone along with DNA from kindergarten to their present . this something the criminal mind should fear not the honest reasonable citizen .Employees sometimes do so why wait till it's too late .
