Have been told to go into safe mode but I can't get past the floating message on the screen each time I turn on the computer. Can't input anything on keyboard and turning the computer on and off does nothing either. I got lucky once and by chance got in and indeed the screen was at about 600 but when I changed to recommended 1280x1024, the msg returned and since then, a week ago, I can't get back in??? HELP. thanks

Hmm this is hard to explain but ill try , First Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and find the names of the processes that you think are the viruses.... Then try to get into safe mode after that goto Start - Run then type in msconfig there at the startup tab remove the one's that you think you don't need / or the viruses after that go to run again then type in regedit Choose local machine - software - Microsoft - Windows - Current Version - Run and delete the one's that are suspicious ... Becareful though, after that try scanning your pc anyways if all else fails just reformat it... HEHE

I'm inclined to agree with your second reply: I think it's more likely to be a hardware fault than a virus, unless your keyboard is completely frozen out. If you've just got a box on the display that doesn't have windows features (e.g. no red 'x' in the corner to close it, etc) it's probably being generated by your monitor. Start with your monitor's own control buttons, and look for an option related to 'optimum mode', and try and disable it.

If there's no sign of an option there, look if you can connect your monitor to your computer using a different connection. Most modern video cards have both a digital and a VGA port.
If you're using one, maybe you can use an adaptor to attach it to the other. This may help.

No, it a bug between drivers, your video card and your monitor.

Since I don't know what you have, here is what other people did for various fixes.
