I just got back from a party, and this guy, who knows absolutely nothing about me, asks me bluntly: "Are You An Airhead?"

And I chuckle, and say: "Far from it."

And he spent the the rest of the evening quiet. I know this is an immature scenario, but even after getting home, it lingers in my mind.... why do we let stuff like this bother us? I feel like a fuc#$ing 13 year old for pondering this ...

But is our self-perception formed by the opinions of others?
If so, I absolutely refuse it.

...just a thought.

Refusing it works -- up until your insecurities begin to creep up on you all over again. It's a complete b.s. cycle. But then my pride argues on what the world's perception of "cool" is; after realizing that it's crafted strictly from marketing .. I realize just how many sheep there are out there following a herd. Very sad.

I think your response to the guy was terrific.
You shut him up, completely; he probably felt like a complete @ss.

As for being bothered by the remark ... normal reaction. You'll bounce back when you can get some perspective. I think he's probably licking the wound in his own self-perception ... it may be a long time before he makes a remark like that again.

as much as some might disagree, i think most of who we are is build from the opinion of others. whelther we prove them right or wrong, we mold their perspective and bring it to use somehow within ourselves. what others say will always effect us but its a matter of determining how much importance we give it

FYI: I'm not talking to you anymore, and I am removing you as a contact.

So... how's it going? Does refusing it work?

UPDATE: The account was suspended, but I appealed and they reversed it.
