Okay, please cut me some slack here; this is, far and away, the most embarrassing and humiliating thing I've ever asked anyone in my entire life. Worse yet, I'm asking the free world of complete strangers. This is going to sound pretty nasty, so please don't give me any grief, as I'm already kind of scared as it is.

Okay, here goes. I'm a 19 year old male, virgin at that.About a month ago, I used the bathroom, and saw there was blood. I wiped, and didn't seem to be bleeding, so I disregarded it for the most part; after all, it wasn't much. Then a few weeks ago, it happened again. Again, not much blood, but still kind concerned me. Then tonight, it happened again, and I'm, quite frankly, starting to get scared.

I'll admit, I've never studdies human anatomy before. And perhaps, I don't know, maybe it's from "wiping too much" or something? I'm hesitant to ask a doctor, because A) my family doctor is female, and B) if I ask to see a new doc, my family might get worries. What should I do?

I was curious, what could this possibly be? Who would I talk to, or what would I ask them to look at? Is it something weight-related? I'm overweight, but I've lost some weight, and never had problems like this before.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has ANYTHING to suggest. I'm seriously sort of scared over this, not because I know what it might be, but because I have no idea what it *could* be. Any possible information is greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, it wasn't blood in the urine. Err, "number 2" is the most appropriate term I can think of. Seriously, I know this sounds really stupid, but I am honestly concerned.

I agree with what many have said, minor case of hemmorhoids, you probably want to add a bit more fiber into your diet so the stool is softer and passes easier. Also, you could be wiping a bit, which could irritate and chafe the anal area and cause some minor bleeding. In that case, they have moist wipes available virutally everywhere (flushable, in the TP section) that you could use to cut down on irritation. If fiber and new wipes don't work, then you have to see a doctor, could be a fissure and a doctor would want to take a look at that.

Been there, done that. It turned out that I had a hiatial hernia that was causing bad acid reflux. The acid was eating away and was causing internal bleeding. The doctor also said that because I was not getting enough fiber in my diet, I was straining more than usual when I go to the bathroom. This was causing sores when I went and made some of the blood. I am not saying that this is your problem. It could be a number of things causing it. There are hemmeroids, ulcers, polyps, and acid reflux, just to name a few. Go to the doctor. They will first do a blood culture on you to see how much bleeding you have. Then they will check you blood cell count. If you have high white blood cell count, then that means that your body is fighting some kind of infection. If you have a normal white blood cell count, but a low red blood cell count, then that means you have some kind of sore that is not healing. Depending on the amount of blood lost will tell the doctor how serious the problem is.

Yes, the doctor will first stick his/her finger up your rectum to feel for hemmeroids. Then, if he/she doesn't find any, he/she will follow up with the blood culture. Then if it shows that there is current blood loss, he/she will take the blood and do a blood analysis. He/she may also decide at this time to send you to a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy. I had to do all of the above.

This is only on the toilet paper when you wipe? The most likely answer is hemorrhoids. Generally, they will be bothersome. You didn't say you were in any pain or anything so it might not be that. The usual cause of hemorrhoids is constipation and having to strain to have a BM. Anything like that going on?

I do know that if the blood is pretty bright red, it's coming from close to the anus. In contrast, passing dark blood, or something that looks like coffee grounds, means the blood is coming from higher up.

It could just be from wiping too much. You should really see your doctor. It's nothing to mess around with. She's a doctor; she's seen everything. Don't worry about that part. Don't worry about asking either. It's not that big a deal. Stuff happens and when we don't know why we ask--it makes us human. You'll be okay. But just go ahead and see your doctor about it.

1) eat more fiber to ease the passage of food through your stomach and anal tract. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
2) use a more gentle tissue
3) if problem persist, don't worry about what your female doctor will say, she'll just be glad you came to her as a PHYSICAN.

If your anal area itches, especially after a bowel movement, then you probably have hemorrhoids. To properly treat this buy some Preparation H.

If the blood is fresh (bright red) then you probably are having tears as the stool is passing through the anal cavity.

If none of these are the cause then you should definitely get to your doctor for a complete checkup. There have been cases of young men who have gotten prostate cancer, rectal or colon cancer.

And, a sidenote here. This is the internet. There is no need to be embarassed or feel shame. I think the majority of people are here to give good, solid advice, no matter the topic and at least you worded it as much in a gentlemanly way as you could.

This happens to everyone at some point. If the blood is red and fresh, it's almost certainly a fissure and nothing to worry about. ...it's just a break in the membrane of your rectum, possibly due to over wiping or a large stool. Not to put too fine a point on it ..if you are over eating and your stools are large and hard this can happen quite easily. Your doctor has seen it all before, do not worrry. If it is discoloured (black or green ) then you should get it checked out ias it could be a problem further up and for no other reason than you are worrying about it...but again it's almost certainly nothing to worry about.

It might simply be pimples. Not all pimples have pus heads on them and when you are pregnant they can show up anywhere. And to ease your mind, it always takes along time for my nicks to stop bleeding down there. It could also be a heat rash. Sounds funny, but either try to not wear underwear (if you don't have lots of discharge) or use a powder to keep it clean if you think that heat could be the problem. oh my- I just read Rosa's answer-that is not true!! HPV can not be cured by antibiotics, its a virus not a bacteria! HPV is sexually transmitted and it can't be removed in one simple procedure, this woman or that show has no idea what they are talking about! I have a friend who was diagnosed and a cousin with this.

Are your bowel movements difficult when you find the blood? Constipation can cause large bowel movements that tear the rectum. You might try a stool softener. Definitely see a doctor, if the bleeding continues, to rule out something more serious. And don't feel embarrassed to talk to your doctor. A lot of people experience bowel problems at one time or another, and testing you will be routine for her. If she gives physicals to men, she does rectal exams. And although you aren't comfortable with talking to her about this, you need to remember that she's trained to examine body parts clinically, like a mechanic looks at a car.

seems too simple, but I'll ask... been eating peanuts at the bar?... if they're not chewed well, the sharp edges can be still there when that bit of bowel movement is evacuated and tear the lining of the rectum on the way out.... everyone who said eat more fiber was right on....., drink more water and get some baby wipes for your behind for a while....and mind what you're eating, like the peanuts... even corn can come thru still in it's original form and make the move difficult....

Might be bleeding hemorrhoids. Believe it or not, it's not serious. Usually.

Hemorrhoids are varicose veins inside your rectum. Sometimes they make a big bump next to your anus. It can get itchy and painful. Its not serious or dangerous, just annoying. Sometimes they will rupture and bleed a little. If you're curious you can Google 'hemorrhoids' and read all about them.

If it happens a lot you might talk to your doctor about them. I say that because they -could- be something serious. (I doubt it though). She will probably send you to a specialist (a proctologist) who looks up butts all day long (why would someone want to do that for a living?) He will look up your butt and tell you it's nothing serious. I had them in my early 20s and then they went away by themselves!

It's probably hemorrhoids or an anterior fissure. It's fairly common, and while somewhat embarassing to you, it won't surprise or freak out a doctor. It's not from wiping too much. I understand the embarassment of talking to a female doctor, but you gotta trust me - she's heard a lot worse than this, and won't bat an eye.
