Every computer (PC) I use and thats been qiuite a lot over the past years, has its own little quirk or oddity, this works for a while then stops that works but not 100% (you have to bang that one on the left with the mouse. Oh just do a reboot .Press control Alt Delete, press escape and it opens the fire exit, Well you know what I mean IS it about time they made the damn things work so that you don't have to fly them by the seat of your pants. We should be able to switch them on and away we go. do you agree?

A word about state of the art computers and programs ect. they don,t usually work as well as they claim and in my very humble view should be avoided, if poss. Most big companies go for tried and tested programs and equipment . And to the person who asked what this question is doing in the senior Citizens section I can post my question where I like even in Yahoo answer and anyway its a genuine seniors question end of rant.

All computers do annoying things sometimes, it happens. I've just bought a new laptop and on that small things happen like the control alt delete thing but the main thing is that you know how to sort it out really. The most annoying thing for me is when the Internet goes down, doesn't happen often but it's normally when I really need to do something, but that happens to everyone. When you think what marvellous things computer technology and the world wide web are, I think we can put up with the annoying things really, I always said I'd never want to use a computer and I'd hate not to have one now it's fantastic warts and all! Hope you don't have any trouble today!

I don't know why this is a senior citizens question. I've been using computers at home for 25 years - the first one was as big as a stacked fridge freezer and had less memory than my mobile phone.
They have always been prone to little quirks. Sometimes they just seem to be having an off-day and they often refuse to speak to the printer.
On the other hand, they are much more complex than your toaster, dish-washer, washing machine - all of which are equipped with micro chips these days. How often do they go wrong?
Don't mistreat your mouse. It's only little!

And every time they bring out something new and faster, the old ones feel left out and go on a go slow protest. Computers, I mean. Some programs take up a lot of memory and can slow thing down, or not work at all.

I trust you clean up and defragment the disk occasionally - that can sometimes make a difference. That poor little mouse of yours may need a clean up too, you'll be surprised how much muck it can pick up.

Having one of the new fast laptops can have it's drawbacks, the finger only has to hover within a hairs breadth over the touchpad mouse and it changes to another page.

Yes. And I share an apartment with two young guys from our church, one is 31 and the other 35 (both desperate for wives). They are both absolute computer boffs, they make them, they make programs, and whenever something goes wrong and I call one of them it; "there is nothing wrong with the computer, it must have been something you did!" But then they do admit, they go crazy (the computers) and do funny things at times.

I'm going to put the boys on U Tube, and see if some really nice girls will like them!

When you switch off your machine do you just opt for
Shut Down?
If you do you are NOT getting your updates and this causes all sorts of problems when you switch on again.

Also have you emptied your Recycle bin? If not it is taking up valuable space with things you have discarded but not got rid of.

PCs are only as good as their user.

Treat it well and it will not play up.

I have been a bit puzzled by mine lately...It works OK but every now and then a voice shouts at me. I have even heard a sneeze coming from my speakers. I have no idea what is going on, I've run scans but nothing shows up...WEIRD!

I think that there are people sitting in offices who have to justify their pay so they think up new add on programs which can be downloaded as patches and make things more complicated to more prone to going wrong

I hear ya! I think computers are just like a car your used to. My kids get on mine and do nothing but complain about how slow it is. I have no problems. I think you yourself can operate it because you know what and what not to do with it!! When my daughter heads towards mine I just cringe!!

Mine has a tendency to turn off when I am in the middle of something.
I figure it's just like having an old car. It has it's idiosyncrasies.
And they call this "user friendly" Ha!
