There really isn't any cure, but there is a natural treatment. It has been around for over 100 years and works well for the symptoms of an underactive thyroid. It is adjusted by free t4 and free t3. Links on it below.

The reason why many feel well on Armour thyroid is because it contains both T4 and T3. Many with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) have difficulty converting T4 to T3 and Armour has T3 in it. The most common med for the condition is Synthoid. It is made in a lab. It is a T4 medication. It is given wit the idea that the person will convert T4 into T3. Many people can convert enough, but just as many can't. That's why there are many options. If you want the natural way, try Armour thyroid or Naturethroid.

For thiose with low iodine levels iodine may help, but it some cases it can make matters worse. I'd try the ARmour or Naturethroid first. I have been on Armour for 4+ years and almost all symptoms are gone. It is adjusted by free t4 and free T3, not by TSH. The TSH test is a test that was developed to adjust Synthoid, not Armour and it should not be used to adjust Armour.

Aside from the most commonly thought of Iodine (a mineral naturally occurring in Kelp and Bladderwrack Leaves), there's also L-Tyrosine (an amino acid), Coleus Forskohlii (an herb). Those are the most helpful for most people to nourish their thyroid, but some people also get benefits from the B-vitamins, Zinc, Selenium, and Copper.

I don't really think you can. My sister has just had her thyroid removed along with a goiter as they could not get it under control with Thyroxine. She was told she had Hashimoto's disease which is chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis it is an autoimmune disease where the body's own antibodies attack the cells of the thyroid. Treatment is with daily thyroxine. Even though she has had the thyroid out she still has to take the thyroxine.

I think treating it other way may not be possble but may be they are looking at other ways and it may depend on the severity.

Wow... let me be brief. This is too simplistic of a question. Thyroid disease is a broad category that includes overactive thyroids, under active thyroids and both states from a multitude of potential causes along the chain of events that results in the control of the thyroid.

Let me be clear that MOST natural remedies for thyroid disease are nothing more than seaweed (kelp) for iodine and sometimes some tyrosine. This will work IF and its a BIG if your problem is merely a deficiency of these. Unfortunately most Thyroid disease in modern times is NOT due to these.

You must get a complete panel of tests to determine where the problem is - is it autoimmune like a hashimoto's thyroiditis or is it a more complex problem like reduced conversion of one form of the hormone to another. These are just the beginnings. This is really complex and I strongly advise you to get professional assistance. Some things are better treated naturally but thyroid disease is not generally one of them. Some natural practitioners will push "Armour Thyroid" as it has a spectrum of the multiple forms of the hormone and might be worth a try but BUT BUT you MUST know where the defect or problem is BEFORE you can attempt o treat it at all with ANYTHING!!! GET tests and speak with your doc!

IF you have an auto immune based disease look into "sterols" branded as Moducare. They may be of help but no good studies on it and a pain to take as they must be on an empty stomach.

Other forms of Thyroid disease might be helped by an ayurvedic herb known as Coleus forskolii.

Also if you do undertake thyroid replacement look into using a bit of T3 (Cytomel) along with the commonly prescribed T4 (Synthroid et al).

This REALLY is not something to screw around with by yourself.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tinyurl.im/aH6sr Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour. Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland. Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that sits low on the front of the neck. Your thyroid lies below your Adam’s apple, along the front of the windpipe. The thyroid has two side lobes, connected by a bridge (isthmus) in the middle. When the thyroid is its normal size, you’re unlikely to be able to feel it.
All types of hyperthyroidism are due to overproduction of thyroid hormones, but the condition can develop in several ways.
Thyroid hormone production can be suppressed or halted completely in these ways: https://tr.im/hRqmV

The top 2 things that can cause thyroid problems are iodine deficiency and radiation exposure.
There isn't a lot we can do about radiation other than to avoid it, but there's certainly something that can be done about iodine deficiency. Not sure if reversing iodine deficiency is a permanent solution, but it's a good solution.

Something I regularly encounter is that many chronic health diseases have a strong emotional component. If you can gently release that emotional distress the body is better able to improve its health naturally.

A therapy called Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) has a strong track record of helping with a number of health problems. Have a read of the article below about how one lady overcame her thyroid problems by resolving the underlying emotional conflict about an event from her past. At the time of writing the article she has been 8 months medication free, and that was in consultation with her medical adviser on how to go about changing her medication levels.

Making dietary changes is your first line of defense in treating hypothyroidism. Many people with hypothyroidism experience crippling fatigue and brain fog, which prompts reaching for non-nutritional forms of energy like sugar and caffeine. I’ve dubbed these rascals the terrible twosome, as they can burn out your thyroid (and destabilize blood sugar).

Just say no to the dietary bungee cord.
Up the protein
Get fat.

My friend suffered for hypothyroid 2 years ago. she read a book on the internet which is useful for her disease. you can see the book at: http://adola.net/go/hypothyroidismrevolution/

If you are hyperthyroid then you need treatment. They can give you radioactive iodine treatment, surgery or thyroid supplements. If you get the radioactive iodine treatment the common side effect is hypothyroid. You will gain weight and will be more on the heavier side for the rest of your life. In time, you will just slowly gain more weight and find it hard to lose the extra weight.
