Wang.

Wang and Pettite are pretty much all the Yanks have when it comes to starters. (poor mussina) They are both great pitchers, but Wang has done better for George this year.

Lets look at the numbers:

Wins
Wang 16
Pettite 12

Losses
Wang 6
Pettite 8

ERA
Wang 3.79
Pettite 3.82

WHIP
Wang 1.27
Pettite 1.40

Opponents Batting Average
Wang .266
Pettite .283

Home runs given up
Wang 7
Pettite 14

Hits given up
Wang 167
Pettite 202

I'd start with Wang. Just because IF they lose the first game, I'd want Pettitte following up. He has been lights out in games following a Yankees loss this year.

Of course the problems for the Yankees begin in game 3...

Wang is the ace of the yankees rotation. As Far as who i want to pitch in game 1 of the ALDS i would put wang as the starter, Game 2 Pettitte, Game 3 Clemens if hes healthy enough, Game 4 Wang, and Game 5 Pettitte.

As a Sox fan, I would say Wang is defintely the better pitcher, as well as the future of the Yankees. Pettite is a great pitcher, with a solid regular season as well as postseason record.

Wang can also get out a jam with one pitch, while Pettite does find his way out of jams but does not have that devastating sinker.

I think Wang is the "ace" this year. But for ALDS, I would start Pettitte in game 1 and Wang in game 2. If the Yanks were to lose game 1, I have confidence in Wang to win game 2. Then if it headed to game 5, Pettitte is a big game pitcher and I can see him pitching the team to victory.

Wang with his 17 wins is better than Pettite.

Wang does have the better numbers this year. And he is proving that he'll be around a long time. But what "Bob" above me fails to mention is the following stats:

Postseason records:

Pettitte 18-6
Wang 1-1

In a short 5 game series like the ALDS, you have to hand the ball to a veteran like Pettitte. In the post season, all he does is win.

Wang is the ace, but Pettite should be on the mound during a playoff clincher game.

Wang. His last two starts have ben real decent. He's had his sinker working good and his change up has fooled just about everyone. He's our Ace. Pettite has looked real good as well until his last start.
