Hitting is fine. Pitching is the problem. Now the uncertainty from Clemens and Moose's problems...and rookies on the backend. Do the Yankees have the pitching?

The Yankees will make it in the Wild Card and will lose to the Angels in 3, a sweep for LA.

The Indians will beat Boston in 5 games.

The Angels will beat the Indians in 6 games.

The Angels will beat what ever piece of crap they face in the World series via a sweep.

There is your Yankees + AL playoff predictions.

Yankees have 23 games left. I say they need to at least go 14-9 to get into the playoffs for sure. If Wang and Pettite pitch well and win a total 7 wins in the remaining games, that would leave 7 other games the Yanks need to find other ways to win. Maybe rookie Kennedy can help pull them through. Even if they do make the playoffs, they probably can't go very far with their pitching anyway. Sad but probably true.

I like the formula Law used. However, there is a situation that can arise that will negate the playoff picture he created. Cleveland is red hot right now and if they can pull off the second best record in the AL (they currently are 2 games behind the Angels) then the Yankees would avoid the Angels in the ALDS. The Angels struggle with Boston and the Yankees are 6-0 this year against Cleveland. I honestly believe if the first round matchups are Cleveland and NY, and LA with Boston the Yankees can get #27 this year. (you heard it HERE 1st!!!)

Hitting can get you to the playoffs and pitching wins championships. I believe the Yankees are good enough to get to the playoffs because of their great offensive capabilities but it will be difficult to win it all if their pitching doesn't step it up and shut down their opponents in the playoffs. The Yankees will not win too many 2-1 games.

All this century the same story: it doesn't matter because if they make the playoffs they won't go far because of pitching.

Nutty Steinbrenner STILL hasn't got it that pitching is an important part of the game. They have some fine talent but they keep picking up outfielders late in the season instead of pitchers. The free-agent route usually results in them picking up some outfielders.

So, what the hey. They make the playoffs and are eliminated in the first round. Most of the other teams sort of look at their pitching each year, ya know?

Yes I believe the Yankees do have the pitching to get to the playoffs.

The rookies need to step up. Theyre on a mission and hopefully they'll get us in the playoffs. Watch for Hughes and Kennedy to get nasty.

they have what it takes to make the playoffs yes, but they don't have enough to beat the angels in a series where LA has home field advantage.

I think they will still win the wild card spot because the Tigers are falling apart & Seattle will also fall.

No but the remaining schedule is easy enough that they should make it.

That and the fact that Seattle and Detroit are imploding.
