I will be relocating to San Diego and I am looking for a safe, fairly updated apt for me and my son not too far from the Children's Hospital. I am not familiar with the safer neighborhoods (if there is such a thing nowadays) or how far away is too far with traffic and such. Any help is appreciated as I am coming from overseas. Thanks in advance.

The safe parts of town can be entire neighborhoods, or even sections within neighborhoods.

I would look to Tierrasanta, UTC, Clairemont (some parts, not on busy streets), Mission Valley, Bay Park (by USD), and a few others.

River Colony in Mission Valley is right off the 8 and also very close to the 163(where Childrens Hosp is off of)....a very nice, safe place for you & your son & probably about 10 minutes or less from the hospital.

Within a few blocks (walking distance) of Children's are the Mesa Vista Apartments; also apartments and condos south of Childrens also within walking distance with many names, but you should look there too. They are in an area informally called "Birdland" as all the streets are named after birds (Meadowlark, Nightengale, Cardinal etc.) Don't look in nearby Linda Vista though as that area's full of gangs.
