It might be flaring at his reflection but he's never done it before. He's going crazy!!! Trying to jump out and biting the glass!

Is there anything brightly colored or fishlike around the tank? If he's only attacking one side of the tank, cover that side with a t-shirt or cloth and see if that stops him.

If it's his reflection, putting lots of plants around the tank can help break up the light and make the reflection less obvious. Also turn off the tank light if you have one on, since this makes the glass like a mirror.

Make sure you put a top on the tank (even plastic wrap with holes punched in it will work). Bettas can jump high and many owners have come in to a betta on the floor or in a neighboring tank.

You might want to try taping something to the outside of the tank to act as a background to try to remove the reflection. Or turn off the tank light and see if this helps.

This isn't unusual behavior, some bettas even attack their reflections in the glass part of the heater.

I would suggest putting up some cardstock or paper on the outside of the tank, this will eliminate the reflection, and his need to be territorial against what he thinks is another betta fish.

Some stress coat, purchaseable at walmart or any pet superstore that stocks aquarium and tank supplies, could also help calm him down, so try some of that. not too much, or you will poison him. a drop or two in a good sized fish bowl will do the trick!

good luck, and be sure to keep an eye on him, to make sure he doesnt hurt himself!!

try to put something up to block the reflection in the glass!
move the plants and decor around in the tank so that the reflection is no longer there
try putting something up to block the reflection
your betta just thinks that his reflection is another betta and he's very territorial
flaring isn't good for him so do whatever you can to get rid of the reflection asap

He is seeing his reflection & trying to attack what he sees as a threat. Try moving him to a spot where there is no reflection of any kind. Also, make certain that his bowl isn't too full or he will flip out of the tank. I keep mine is a large round bowl only half way full of water so he can't flip out. They aren't called Japanese Fighting Fish for nothing!

Its ok, they do that. Its just the same as if there was another in there, hes asserting his dominance, of himself :| As long as he doesnt start attacknig the reflection and injuring himself he will be A-OK
