they think of something sad that happened to themselves.
Or they try to feel that they themselves are in the situation the charactor.

As a first time actors using that technique (personal experience) may help, although it's quite dangerous. If you are always using your personal experiences to make you cry, it may have an effect in you, emotionally. You may get used to it and time will come that you will no longer cry on that thought. It may make you cry for the first time but since it is personal you may over act it and may not control while on stage, you may able to forget the lines or eat the lines and audience may no longer understand you. Since it is personal, one danger is the possibility of you may physically act out your emotional baggages and may not control it.
It is always best to study and get classes for acting. You can not be a better actor over night. You need to practice with a mentor.

I don't claim to be an actor, but I can make myself cry. The trick is, that it all starts in the nasal passage. Have you ever concentrated on what happens when you really cry? Your nostrils tend to flare, and your pallete raises in your mouth. When I do both of these things simultaneously, my eyes automatically begin to water. Also, it helps if you look at yourself in the mirror while you're doing it for the first few times...hope this helps! Its a little hard to describe...

For me I think of a sad thing that has happened to me in the past that made me cry really hard. Also just get really into the character. The character is you. But also in hollywood there are eye drops and pulling out eye lashes to make you really tear up and look like you are crying.

Well, I know two methods. Either don't blink for a good few minutes(which is kinda painful because it itches a lot) , either they get really into the character's shoes and simply start crying. I can cry on command without not blinking. I just really get into the role and... there ya go...

The right answers are that if you are doing what an actor is supposed to be doing, you will cry when the character is supposed to cry. I don't believe in the Stanislavsky affective memory technique. I believe in acting, in being the character, not in pretending to be the character while being yourself, that's phoney.

they think about how overpaid they are for acting. Tears of joy follow, then they just act sad, when in reality they are thinking of their bank accounts.
