Active or non-active?

The northern western portion of the Santa Monica Mountain Range, also known as the Conejo Volcanics, is of volcanic origin and sprung from numerous "volcanoes".

The closest "active" volcano is probably Mammoth Mountain in Mammoth, California.

Actually, the nearest active ones are probably in Mexico, SE of LA, because most of the notable ones in the US are in Oregon or southern Washington, several hundred miles away. Did you see that silly movie with lava running in the streets? I loved the wall of lava coming up against the concrete barriers with the fire trucks backing them up and the paint was in perfect shape. In reality (as in the glassblowing I do) the paint would be bubbling, the rubber gaskets would be bubbling or burning, and the glass would be sagging.

Mount shasta. Perhaps Mammoth mountain because they expected it to erupt several years ago. There was a super eruption near Bishop and Mono lake several hundred thousand years ago called the long valley caldera.
