Would it really surprise you if it were true? Not me.

It has nothing to do with the programming. The components inside (like the rechargeable battery) have a known MTBF (mean time between failure). Apple designed this value to reasonably approximate their product development cycle.

In their way of thinking this creates an automatic market for their next generation of equipment because it is very inconvenient and expensive to send the device in for repair. They really created it as a disposable device (not very green, huh?) to be replaced at regular intervals.

How long have you kept an MP3 or other music player before replacing it with a better one (more capacity or other features)? I think they took that into account in their planned obsolescence strategy as well.

No, that is crazy. If this was even close to true you would not see any iPods around, Apple has sold several BILLION!.
If Apple does have something is wrong with a product, they extend the warranty to cover it. That is one of the great things about Apple, they take care of their customers.

I have an old 2nd gen ipod that has worked great from the day I bought it.

Wow this is a huge news story of consumer fraud. I wonder why only one video has been on all of the news seen only by a few friends.

A few of my friends saw a video on bigfoot. That's how I know that clowns exist.

I find iPods to be the worst major-brand player on the market but even I don't believe that one. You seriously need to get an IQ test and find out if you're mentally retarded if you believe that non-sense.

the length of the manufactures warranty is a pretty good indication of how long an electronic device will function normally.
