My friend's daughter was just born last month. He is in the army national guard and he is leaving next week for pre-deployment training. He will be gone for 7 months. When he comes back his daughter will be 8 1/2 months old. Will she recognize him or is he going to have to start all over and create a new bond with her?

My boyfriend is in the army national guard also. He left he week after our daughter was born for training. While he's been gone i've been showing her pictures of him daily ( I know it sounds crazy but it works ,) When he calls I let him talk to her on the phone and even though she can't talk she babbles back to him. When she was alsmot 3 months old I took her over to where his training was in South Carolina to go see him. The first time he held her, her eyes lit up like I'd never seen before. She will remember her dad. If she doesn't, since she'll still be young they can easily create a bond with eachother when he returns.

she will have the love he has for her now but will need to get to know her again...at 8 and a half months shewill be a different person than she is now. It wont be a big deal and she will love him always and respond tohim soon after he returns.

She won't remember him. She is too young to imprint those memories yet but will still be a baby when he returns so he can re-form those bonds without a lot of trauma to her.

She will probably remember him, however, after not seeing him after only 2 or 3 weeks she will figure that he has died or is never coming back and will go through a mourning period. She will be shocked, if she remembers (which Im sure she will) when he comes home. Its like someone you thought had died walked back in the house.

At purely 2 months previous, i think of its plenty too youthful for mommy to be long gone for the completed weekend you will possibly discover as quickly as the newborn is born, your no longer likely to pick to circulate away him/her
