Calcium oxide (lime) undergoes the reaction:

CaO + Cl2 >>> Ca(OCl)2 + CaCl2

But there are considerable byproducts such as CaCl2

So magnesium oxide (which has similar properties) could be expected to undergo a corresponding reaction

MgO + Cl2 >>> Mg(OCl)2

Also, this reaction would be expected to lead to other byproducts such as MgCl2 etc
