I work as a Receptionist in a senior college so obviously I have to answer the phone a lot. What should I say next time I pick it up? I usually say Good Morning/Afternoon "insert school name here" Caitlin speaking.

Good morning this is John how can I help you....we used to do that on busy night in the call center back in the day...no one ever said anything about it...they all were probably way to drunk....being that its a cab company lol

I think the way you are answering is perfect. It is short, sweet and lets the person know they called the right place at the right time.
maybe at the end add a "how may I help you?".

Sounds good to me..
You are telling people where they have called.. (the school) and who they are speaking to..(your name) and you offer them a greeting.. that is all you need.. if you want you can add, May I help you?
