Why do baseball players keep journals?

While I was watching a baseball game I saw a player reach for his notebook and the commentators said he was going to write in his journal. After noticing it, I have seen it more often done by other players. I was wondering why do players do this and do all athletes do this in other sports? Thanks in advance...

Some hitters keep track of how they were pitched because they hope to pick up patterns. Curt Schilling writes down how he pitched to each hitter to try to figure out his weaknesses, and maybe to avoid obvious patterns. I don't know how many other pitchers or catchers do this.

Except for the backup quarterback with the clipboard, football players don't write during games. They have time to review every play on tape after the game. I don't know any other sport where people write journals during the game, unless you count chess as a sport. They are required to record each move in a tournament game.

haha if you're saying baseball players, probably because they get so drunk every night that they can't remember what they did if they don't write it down. but seriously many baseball players are very intelligent and try to learn as much as they can about their opponents... a batter and a pitcher are pretty much playing a game of poker, and to gain an advantage the batter or the pitcher must learn their opponents tells and use them against each other. its a very interesting game if you know the ins and outs of how the players think.
