My dad used to shake me till I bit my tongue, or would bend my finger back as far as it would go without breaking off. My mother was worse. she never spanked, she went right for the head. She hit me so hard in both temples once that they swelled up and my eyes were black and blue for a week. Then she had the nerve to lie to my grandma and told her that I got the bruises from sitting with my head in my fists while I read!

A couple of times. My dad would line us kids up (usually just my two older brothers and me... not usually my older sister - the first born) and have us stand in a line from who was oldest to who was youngest (I am the youngest... so I was last) and take his thickest leather belt to each of us. We had to watch each other get the belt. That happened when our room was not cleaned up.
And I was the only one in the family who really got the emotional abuse. My father blamed me for him messing around on my mom with another woman. Because - apparently - "if I had never been born, my family would have been happier" (those were his words) ... oh, and I apparently was a sl*t at 13 for wanting to go to the mall with my friends... and once, I "ruined" my moms birthday (although my mom says I didn't, but my dad says I did) because I was having a huge fight with my husband that day.
Sorry for making this long - but I think I turned out pretty good COMPARED to my father... considering my dad and both my brothers are druggies... and I have never even smoked weed in my life or been drunk once.

No, thank God.
Although verbal abuse and lack of attention by any parent can cause pain for any child at the time it occurs.
Child abuse would vary on the individual child/adult.

Yup and much of it was considered child abuse then, too.
I don't have much to do with them anymore and I'm better off for it.

I got spanked with a belt 1 time and when I was 15 and called my piano teacher a b*tch, I got punched in the jaw. That was it.

i got hit with the belt. i still dont believe it's child abuse though (although im sure some consider it to be) they still give spankings with a paddle in some schools!

No. There were times when they probably wanted to spank me as I was kinda bratty, but neither of them believed in physical punishment such as spankings. I've never had anyone hit me and i hope I never do.

Not really to me, but to my brother yes! We had to pull my dad off of him once when he had him by the throat raised up on the wall...... but he was stoned at age 12 so I can understand the frustration behind it now.

Yes ...but I've stayed out of trouble, don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, very successful and I wouldn't be without my parents staying on my butt and making sure I stayed right!
